2013 is also the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the DNA double helix by Francis Crick and James Watson. To mark this anniversary, the partners have commissioned author Jane Rogers to write a new short story inspired by this discovery, The DNA of Bats, and we now invite other authors to write their own flash fiction, inspired by the theme of DNA.

2013 is the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the DNA double helix by Watson and Crick. CIT and Waterside used this as the theme for our second commission award to be made to makers of new theatre work.

To act as further creative inspiration for the theatre commission, CIT partnered with Manchester Literature Festival to ask author Jane Rogers to write a short story, The DNA of Bats (download The DNA of Bats by Jane Rogers).

Jane will perform the work live at Waterside Arts Centre on October 12th, immediately followed by a performance of the related theatre piece.

Further details of the event, and the Northern lights writers conference, will be announced in June 2013.

The group meets on the first Thursday of each month and each event is themed around a different aspect of the theatre-making process. We now have the results on our YouTube channel - take a look and let us know what you think.

The actors featured are Lee Toomes, Tigga Goulding, Ted Holden, Jo Smart, Dave Tynan and Anna Denise Whelan working on scripts from Luke Dixon, Brian Marchbank, Alan Mockler, Iain Smith, Dave Tynan & Anna Denise Whelan.
