Venue: Waterside Arts Centre Price: £3.00
An evening of exciting new performance from local theatre makers, hosted by Sophie Willan.
This is an opportunity to see brand new in-development pieces that need a testing ground – an ideal space for artists to give their ideas-a-go before a live audience.
Sophie Willan is a writer, performer, comedian, theatre maker and all round powerhouse who will be hosting the night and maybe scratching some new material of her own. This Spring, she will be taking her critically acclaimed show On record on a UK tour.
Thought Plane Theatre – VELVETEEN: How to become Real
Margery Williams, author of The Velveteen Rabbit is trying to make her book REAL. Whilst not-real herself she will ask for her book to be brought to life, mirroring the toy rabbit’s desire to be become real.
Jon Coleman – I’m Building a Spaceship
“I’m building a spaceship using materials that don’t exist and technology that doesn’t exist, based on science that probably isn’t real. I’m building this spaceship to get away from the mess we’ve made, I’m building it to explore. I’m building this spaceship because I’ve always wanted to. I’m going to use my spaceship to race the universe to the end of itself, to see what’s there, and I want to take you with me.”
Emma Kenny – MESS
She knows people are all hiding behind their smart phones, tablets, and inside social media. They are struggling through life just like her. The real difference is that Emma is willing to admit it and create a show around it. She wants the audience to embrace their own mess and own it, something she learnt after being fixed in therapy. Well almost.
Witness Emma’s version of a well sexy dance, cringe as she walks you through her dating faux pas and experience Emma’s inner critic as you get a chance to actually meet her inner voice, see how she’s trying so hard to give zero shits about the whole thing.
Nathan Birkinshaw – Faith-a-faith-a-faith
The world is ending. So I have been looking into Faith. Life coaches. Chi-running (whatever
that is.) The healing powers of tea. Meditation. Waitrose. George Michael.
With us leaving the EU, the end of the Great British Bake off, the surging price of Avocados and
also I’ve had to stop drinking for health reasons I found myself giving less of a s**t than ever
before. So I’ve decided to change.
Please note, these performances are for age 18 and over.
The event will be held in our unique Chambers Studio, with an opportunity for attendees and artists to meet, mingle and make connections afterwards.
